Abstract

Respiratory Therapy (RT) is a vital profession for hospital care services, it is a basic discipline of the medical team and positively impacts the health status of patients, in different cardiorespiratory pathologies through the application of various intervention modalities1. The area of ​​Respiratory Therapy has expanded and has been impacting society, implementing its knowledge and various clinical procedures to offer adequate health care to patients2. Currently, national legislation and the requirements of professionals specialized in respiratory care take force not only due to market demands but also due to the contribution that these generate in the care and reduction of costs to a health system in crisis3. Objective: Identify the employability of Respiratory Therapists in Pereira, Risaralda 2019. Materials and methods: Observational, descriptive research with a quantitative approach, evaluation of the variables reported from an anonymous survey conducted by the graduate office of the Fundacion Universitaria del Area Andina, applied to 135 graduates of the Respiratory Therapists program of the Pereira campus. The basic information capture and processing according to the study variables was done through Excel and the SPSS program. Results: It can be seen that out of a total of 135 graduates, 117 corresponding to 86 % of the population stated that they are working as therapists Currently respiratory, only 6,6 % (9 people) report being unemployed and the rest register occupations such as independent, entrepreneurs and working outside the country. Conclusions: The present study shows the need to continue conducting research in this occupational field, in addition to showing the changes in the occupational profile due to SARS-CoV-2.
